Built in XVI c. upon another church formerly consecrated to the saints Fabiano and Sebastiano has a Baroque front ornated by stark columns. Only recent excavations shew the walls of a previous building from the pre-Byzantine age. The plan is basilican with three aisles. The aspic and the vaults of the central dome are painted with frescoes and precious plasters. Today it guests the Santa Cecilia Oratory.

The church had been formerly built in 1691 as Madonna del Fulmine Church and only later, in 1770, consecrated to the Madonna Addolarota. The plan, originally rectangular, became round and the main door was opened on the Addolorata little square. The architectural works were by Pietro Russo and were finished in 1790.
The church and its monastry were already named among the Franciscan institutions' list in 1334.
The church and its monastery were already named among the Franciscan institutions' list in 1334. The church gathered a deal of christians so that a whole district was called San Francesco in XV c.. It underwent a strong renovation at the beginning of XVIII due to the well known work of the architect Giovanni Biagio Amico.
