The vicariate Palace

The former jail houses now cultural events

Between 1655 and 1965 it was a jail and it underwent some changes in 1820, following the projects of the architect La Bruna. The place today houses several cultural events and the rooms that the superintendence reserves for a restore workshop.

The vicariate's Palace had been conceived as a jail in 1655 and remained a jail until 1965. The architect La Bruna projected some changes that the palace underwent between 1820 and 1830. The building is quite austere in its look and is four levels tall. The front presents a smooth ashlar work made with a local stone. Upon the wide door there are four impressive telamones male sculptures made of plastered tufas and used as a structural support instead of the usual columns. Throughout the wide door you come inside a trapezoidal courtyard. The building had already been a property of the Jesuit priests who kept their taking care of prisoners bringing them food three time in the year. Today the building houses the cultural association "Amici del Museo Pepoli" that arrange several cultural events.
