Pepoli Museum

Among history and arts the skilled works by the handicraftsmen from Trapani who produced coral, majolicas, paintings and sculpture.

Many a wonderful collection of decorative arts, among them works by Gagini, Tiziano, Balla.

The regional Museum "Agostino Pepoli" preserves sculptures, paintings, historical findings and several hand-workeded goods which plainly show the artistic culture in West Sicily between XIII and XIX c. The museum is directly linked with the sanctuary dedicated to Maria Santissima Annunziata where a little beautiful chapel rich in architectural features preserves the marble statue of the Madonna di Trapani a work aged back to the XIV c. and ascribed to Nino Pisano. In the 60' the collection was rearranged following a main distinction into three sections:Marbles and Plaques; Paintings; manufacturing arts, and nowadays it includes even sculptures from the Renaissance and memories from the Risorgimento.
Visitors will be fascinated by a very representative collection of manufacturings in silver and coral which was here in Trapani one of the most rich economic activities since it was fished fighting against north africans fishermen and pirates and worked in very little laboratory in the town centre.
The collection includes many a coral crib besides ancient jewels gifted by the nobles families of Trapani. There are also sacred vestments and ancient dresses; precious majolicas hand painted which perfectly represent the tuna fishing or the first asset of Trapani. The museum preserves even paintings by Tiziano like the " San Francesco Stigmas" and by Giacomo Balla like teh portrait of Nunzio Nasi. In 2008 The Pepoli Museum guested the Caravaggio collection dedicated to the "Godly Image" with 14 of his best works.
