The very heart's place: the house of Madonna di Trapani

The Sanctuary of Annunziata includes, besides the church also a conventual building both are really fascinating. The first chapel was built in the XIII c. and later enlarged. The front is gothic and is the original one, while inside it was restored in the style of XVIIc. Even the bell Tower is Baroque. There is a single huge aisle which at both its sides has sever chapels rich with ornaments.

There is a single huge aisle which at both its sides has sever chapels rich with ornaments. One of these is that dedicated to Saint Alberto which shows a silver statue of the Saint, other two chapel are dedicated to the sailors and to fishermen. The beautiful chapel dedicated to Maria Santissima is behind the main altar, and visitor can reach it passing through an arch from the Renaissance by Gagini. Closed by a bronze gate dated 1591 there is the marble statue of  the Madonna di Trapani,  popularly worshipped and worthy of many a pilgrimage during the year. It has been told that the statue came from Ciprus on a vessel that sank in our seas and that it remained here to protect the population. On the church left, there is a beautiful cloister bordered with columns and painted in fresco vaults.
