The widest Archaeological Park in Europe

The ancient town of Selinus was the farthest west greek settlement: founded in 650 b.C. got its name after that of the parsley, Selinon in the Greek language, that grew plenty in that place. The town stood on a highland with the sea on the, south, the Gorgo Cottone river on the east and the Codione on the west while on the North it looks Manuzza hill.

The town stood on a highland with the sea  on the,  south, the Gorgo Cottone river on the east and the Codione on the west while on the North it looks Manuzza hill. Selinunte fought against Segesta that, helped by Carthaginians won it in 409 b.C.. It was built again in 407b. C. by Ermocrate from Syracuse, but as he died the year after it fell one more time under Carthaginians who owned it until in 250 b.C., they destroyed the town  so that the Roman couldn't find nothing useful in it. All these events made the temples were plundered, and several earthquakes made their own. Only the historian Tommaso Fazello in XVIIc., discovered the ancient settlement. The archeological park of Selinunte is the widest in Europe: On the north there had been the real town while on the western hill are the remains of three temples, one of them consecrated to Zeus. Westward of the Acropolis there was the sanctuary dedicated to the goddess Malophoros, where Corinthian pottery and  hard pottery figures  had been found. Outside the town walls had been discovered several necropolis remains.
