The First Sicilians chose to live in the Zingaro Natural Preserve
Human presence on this land finds evidence thanks to graffiti, paintings and stone tools used in the prehistorical age that had been found in several caves. Some of them are on the walls of the 'Uzzo Cave one of the cave in the Zingaro Natural Preserve. Pottery fragments, flint, obsidian and twelve human skeletons besides animal bones.
The 'Uzzo Cave is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Sicily, in fact, inside it, were found evidences of human presence already 10.000 years ago. In the cave there were also animal bones probably older than human remains -rhinos, lions and mammoth. These evidences, among them even tools, cleared prehistorical human habits and their evolution in this area. The community living this cave was a small one made up of hunters. They used the cave as a shelter to protect themselves against wild animals and bed weather. They learned farming and fishing later.
