San Vito Lo Capo Sanctuary Museum
The Sanctuary Museum in San Vito Lo Capo, is arranged in the church rooms that had been used by pilgrims and by the garrison in order to find a shelter against Pirates.
The museum gathers silver and liturgical furnishings, besides sacred art works pertaining the worship of the Saint which links together many a town all along the Italian peninsula.
The museum gathers silver and liturgical furnishings, besides sacred art works pertaining the worship of the Saint which links together many a town all along the Italian peninsula. Really interesting is a wooden statue representing the Madonna Immacolata, by an unknown Sicilian sculptor who lived in XVI c. This statue had been formerly preserved in the Tonnara del Secco. The museum shows even the gifts brought by the pilgrim in order to thank the Saint generally considered as a miraculous one. The wide terrace of the building is the perfect place from where you could admire the landscape, which includes the little town roofs besides the wonderful coast with its pink and pearly sand and its crystal sea. Next to the Sanctuary the triangular tower from the XVI c. had been put there in order to defend the whole area from pirates.
