Custonaci
The marble town and the Monte Cofano Natural Preserve
Custonaci is the first quarry basin in Sicily and the second one in Italy and Europe. The landscape here is a really lunare one that mixes with lively country lands. The Monte Cofano Natural Preserve, there nearby, and its untainted bays and hard caves, make the area a really impressive one.
Custonaci is the first quarry basin in Sicily and the second one in Italy and Europe. The landscape here is a really lunare one that mixes with lively country lands. The Monte Cofano Natural Preserve, there nearby, and its untainted bays and hard caves, make the area a really impressive one. Mangiapane grotto is the most particular of these caves, since it houses a very little rural village, that had been lived up to the '60s. Here, on Christmas time, they arrange a crib featuring and all the ancient jobs live out again through the ability of hundreds of actors working along the paths to the living nativity inside the grotto. On Summer the tow celebrates proudly our Lady from Custonaci, with a religious procession starting from the sea side where the first landing of the Holy effigy from XV c. is supposed to have occurred.
