The SS. Salvatore Cathedral is the most important Catholic-worship site in Mazara del Vallo
Consecrated to SS. Salvatore, it has been built by will of the Count Ruggero between 1088 and 1093, in the very place where, following the tales, he had badly risked his life while he was conquering the town. Probably in that place there had formerly been a Mosque.

Probably in that place there had formerly been a Mosque. The church underwent several changes and its present look is a Baroque one. The former Norman style is preserved on the outer walls of the apse and on the transept.
On the front opens a big baroque main door, crowned by a XVIc. high-relief which represent the Count Ruggero Himself riding a horse who steps on a Muslim. Really interesting the inside id divided into three aisles, gorgeous in decorations and works of arts: Hellenistic sarcophagi, works by Gagini and painting by Giambecchina.
