The private house of Whitakers on Mothya island, guests today a great deal of findings which have been found during archaeological excavations on the island. The museum is divided into two sections: the oldest is that which gathers the findings coming from Whitakers collection and still showed in the same display cases he had arranged; the second section presents findings from later excavations, to these are added several educational boards and a model of the Phoenician town. Mothya had been busy centre where they produced pottery, besides there had been a necropoli as revealed by many a sarcophagus. The island had gone ruined in 397 b.C. and the Cappiddazzu Sanctuary should have been built up only later, since during its excavations were found even greek furnishings from VII and IV c. b.C. and Roman pottery as well as middle ages findings. The museum houses also the furnishings coming from another necopoli discovered in Birgi in 1996.
