The former Door on the Sea, was one of the four town doors along the XVc. town walls. It marks since ages the entry to the little city of Marsala facing the seaside. The door was built in 1685.

The door was built in 1685 and presents rich manneristic features with a Roman triumph arch, sided with ashlar worked columns and empty niches. Under its eave a wide Latin inscription, submits to God the coming in and out of the town. A crowned eagle on the upper banister is the interesting symbol of the Spanish Asburgo. The 11th of May 1860 , the Garibaldi army came in Marsala crossing this very door and still nowadays this passage marks the moment you can appreciate the typical colors and smells of this folk-traditions.
