Protected Marine Area of the Egadi Islands: 53.992 ha of lively bio-diversity
Egadi Islands Archipelagos on the west Sicilian Coast, includes Favignana, Levanzo, Marittimo and two more little Islands Formica and Marine. This wonderful landscape, with its plenty of shores and bays surrounded by a wild nature and by seabeds hiding flora and fauna besides archaeological findings, as silent witnesses of the slowly stepping history, was founded in 1991 and is the widest in Europe. Its climate let the clear water be the perfect habitat for Posidonia meadows which plays an amazing role as regards Ecology. There many a species of life finds the perfect plays where they can reproduce.

There many a species of life finds the perfect plays where it can reproduce. One of these has been for ages the coral, red, black and white. Here live herbivores as sea urchins, groupers, ottos, lobsters, squids. Farther in the deep appear, red and yellow gorgonians, sponges and the sea daisy. Among the reefs find their shelter morays and groncos, these waters are the habitat for tuna and rays. Beside this, specimens of monk seal were recently seen along Marettimo coasts.
