The former Church already there in 1486, is today one of the ancient buildings that belong to the International Centre of Scientific Culture Ettore Majorana, where scientists from all over the world meet discussing their theories.
The Church of San Domenico had already been built when the Dominicans preaching-friars got it as a gift. They enlarged the little church consecrated to San Michele between 1595 and 1621. On the front a XV c. door just behind a Renaissance pronao added in 1862. The original wooden vault was covered with lacunar plasters and arabesques. the columns changed in pillars withe Corinthian capitals, even the main altar was covered with plasters. If the front kept its original features, the church inside underwent a big change according to the needs of its present purpose. Nowadays San Domenico is one of the ancient buildings in Erice which belong to the International Centre of Scientific Culture Ettore Majorana, where scientists from all over the world meet discussing their theories. The rectangular structure is closed by a squared pronao and is today a lectures-room. Inside there is a big stepped hall with light coloured wooden benches and, in the presbytery a concrete desk exposed face. The wide room at the third level has wooden trusses and three raws of steps facing the landscape since there is no east wall.
