Punta Troia Castle: a high perch over the Mediterranean Sea
Castled on the high cliff of Punta Troia it had been built by in XII as a Tower and later it became a castle at the end of XVIIc. In 1795 the building was used as prison for political crimes.
It had been a watchtower, built by Saracens on the higher point of Marettimo; Later Ruggero changed it in fortress-castle, in fact, its rooms look like being conceived only for military purpose. The big tank dug around its basement, was changed in prison; in it was inmate Guglielmo Pepe, General in the Kingdom of Sicily. On the ground floor a single wide room is linked upstairs by mean of a sturdy stairway. On the first floor beside a large room there is a narrow arched pass to a second stair which leads to the terrace where had been the guards' rooms.
